2022 NBRC State Economic & Infrastructure Development Grant Awards Announced

The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) has approved $24.2 Million in new awards to 56 projects as of August 18, 2022. The awards are part of the annual State Economic & Infrastructure Development (SEID) grant round. These projects are matched by an additional $120.19 Million in public and private investments, resulting in $144.39 Million in total investment across the four-state NBRC region, including portions of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and all of Vermont. These projects will unfold over the next three years, and all of this year’s awardees are listed on the NBRC’s website, www.nbrc.gov.

The 2022 SEID grant round was among the NBRC’s most competitive to date. The NBRC received 181 Letters of Interest, which collectively requested $120 Million, a 33% increase in requests over 2021. In 2022, 81% of these letters were from applicants new to the program, which is a result of combined efforts by the NBRC and the States of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont to expand outreach and awareness to communities throughout the region.

The SEID program is a Federal-State partnership, with each NBRC state scoring applications consistent with state and local economic development plans, and the NBRC administering the awards and supporting projects over time.

“This year’s State Economic and Infrastructure Development awards build upon the natural strengths of our region by investing a record $24.2 million dollars in community-centered projects across the Commission’s four states. With investments in new trails and outdoor recreation infrastructure, workforce development and entrepreneurship programs, and basic water and wastewater infrastructure, these resources will grow economic opportunities for residents of the region” said NBRC Federal Co-Chair Chris Saunders. “The Commission is particularly proud that this year’s slate of projects reach some of the smallest and most rural areas in New York and New England.”

The funds for this program, and all NBRC programs, are available thanks to the support of the Congressional Delegations of all four NBRC states: Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. Depending on the availability of funds in 2023, the NBRC anticipates another round of SEID awards in 2023. Please refer to NBRC’s website, www.nbrc.gov, for announcements about current and future Funding Opportunities.
